Support, Empower and Belong.

Built for living, backed by great care

Movicare is a mental health and community support provider in Batley, Kirklees. We are preparing to open our first home, and building the wider support around it, for adults who want a place to steady themselves and a way forward that is theirs.

  • Batley, Kirklees, West Yorkshire
  • Adults, 18 and over
  • Recovery-focused support

About us

Rooted in community, focused on people

Movicare is being built as a mental health and community support organisation. A home is where we are starting, and it is not the whole of what we do. Our work is about helping adults live well in their own community, with the right support around them at the right level, for as long or as short a time as they need it.

Our vision

A community where people with mental health needs are supported to move from surviving to living, with purpose, connection and a home of their own.

Our mission

Movicare exists to provide safe, compassionate, recovery-focused support for adults with mental health needs, helping each person rebuild confidence, daily living skills and community connections, and to move on, where that is their goal, to a more independent setting, in their own time and on their own terms.

Our ethos

A home is a home first. Routines, risk management and good practice matter, and they exist to protect and enable an ordinary, dignified life rather than to replace it.

Our colleagues are recruited and trained to build genuine relationships, to notice what a good day looks like for each person, and to support people to take positive, managed risks as part of their recovery.

What we are building

Support that flexes around a person rather than a person fitting around a service. These are the strands we are putting in place, starting in Kirklees.

Residential mental health support

A small home where adults live with their own front door, their own routine and staff on hand day and night. Somewhere to steady yourself, not somewhere to be kept.

Move-on and independence

Practical support with cooking, budgeting, appointments, travel and confidence, so that moving to your own tenancy is a step you have already rehearsed rather than a leap.

Community-based support

Support that comes to people where they already are, at home and around Batley, keeping someone well and connected rather than waiting for a crisis to start the conversation.

Wellbeing and everyday living

Sleep, food, movement, money worries and the ordinary business of a week. The things that decide how a person actually feels, given the same attention as anything clinical.

Working with families and carers

Where a person wants their family involved, we involve them properly, with honest updates and a named person to speak to, and we respect it fully when they would rather we did not.

Working alongside professionals

Joined-up work with community mental health teams, GPs, social workers and hospital colleagues, so that a person tells their story once and the plan holds together.

How we work

Six commitments that decide how a day actually goes, for the people we support and for the people who work here.

Open any of them to see what it looks like in practice.

  • Every person is treated as an equal, never defined by a diagnosis or a label.

In practice. You decide when you get up, what you eat and who comes into your flat. We knock, and we wait to be asked in.

  • Support is built around your own goals, history, culture and preferences, rather than a standard template.

In practice. Your support plan is written with you, in your words, and it changes on the day you say it needs to.

  • We work from the belief that recovery is possible for everyone, and that behaviour is communication shaped by experience.

In practice. We ask what happened to you rather than what is wrong with you, and we build the week around what helps you feel safe.

  • People can only recover somewhere they feel physically and emotionally safe.

In practice. The same faces on shift wherever we can manage it, proper handovers between them, and no surprises about who is coming through the door.

  • We do what we say we will do, and we are open when things go wrong.

In practice. If we get something wrong, you hear it from us before you find it out, with what happened and what we are changing.

  • We believe in the possibility of a good life for every person we support, however long their journey has been.

In practice. We keep a note of the things you want to get back to, and we keep raising them until one of them happens.

Our home

Coming soon: care rooted in Batley

We're rethinking what living in a care home can feel like, and this is a first look at how it's coming together. Each person will have a self-contained studio with their own kitchen area, their own bathroom and a front door they lock with their own key, giving them the space to build everyday skills and live life their way. It's all in a small, friendly building where staff are always close by, offering as much or as little support as each person needs. Tap any photo to see it full size.

Please note. Our first home is being prepared and we are not yet taking anyone in. You are very welcome to get in touch now, and we will keep you posted as soon as we are able to welcome people.

Applications

Apply for a place, or work with us

Two different conversations, so we have kept them apart. Pick the one that fits, and it comes straight to our team.

Apply for a place

For anyone applying for themselves, and for family, carers and professionals applying on someone's behalf. Nothing here is a commitment, and we will always talk it through before anything else happens.

Who is applying?

If that is you, write "same as above".

A town or area is plenty, for example Batley, or a hospital ward.

In your own words. There is no right way to fill this in, and you do not need to give any medical detail you would rather not.

Contact

We'd love to hear from you

Whether you are asking for yourself, for someone you care about, on behalf of a service, or about working with us, the same inbox reaches us and a person reads it.

Policy

Modern Slavery Statement

This is our first statement, and it sets out what we are putting in place from the outset rather than describing an established record we do not yet have.

Movicare is a mental health and community support provider based in Batley, Kirklees. We are a small organisation, below the turnover threshold that makes a statement a legal requirement under section 54 of the Modern Slavery Act 2015. We publish one anyway, because we intend to employ people in a sector where exploitation is a real risk, and because the people we support are among those most likely to be targeted by it.

Our commitment

Movicare has zero tolerance of modern slavery, forced labour, debt bondage and human trafficking, in our own organisation and in every relationship we enter into. We are committed to acting ethically and with integrity, and to putting in place systems and controls that guard against exploitation in any part of our work.

Our structure and our supply chains

We are an independent provider preparing to operate our first home. Our supply chains are short and local: recruitment, agency and bank staffing, food and household supplies, furniture and equipment, cleaning and maintenance, laundry, utilities, training providers and professional services.

We consider the highest risk areas of our work to be agency and temporary staffing, cleaning and maintenance contractors, and low-cost goods sourced from complex international supply chains.

Recruitment and our people

  • Every person we employ is recruited directly by us, with identity and right to work documents checked against the originals, and never through an intermediary who holds a person's documents.
  • References are taken up and verified, and an enhanced DBS check is obtained before anyone starts.
  • Everyone is paid at least the statutory minimum for their age, directly into a bank account in their own name, with a written contract and an itemised payslip.
  • We do not charge any person a fee to work for us, at any stage, for any reason.
  • We do not hold anybody's passport, identity documents or bank card.
  • Working hours, rest breaks and holiday entitlement follow the Working Time Regulations, and we monitor rotas for excessive hours across multiple employers.

Our suppliers and contractors

  • We expect every supplier and contractor to meet the standards in this statement, and we will say so in writing when we engage them.
  • We will ask agencies supplying staff to confirm how they check right to work, how workers are paid, and that no worker has been charged a fee.
  • We will not knowingly work with any organisation that is unwilling to answer those questions, and we will end an arrangement where we find exploitation and report it.
  • Where we buy goods, we favour established UK suppliers who can tell us where their products come from.

Training and awareness

Modern slavery awareness forms part of our induction for every colleague, alongside safeguarding. Our teams are trained to recognise the signs, which include a person having no control of their own money or documents, being accompanied and spoken for, showing signs of fear or being coached in what to say, living in unsuitable accommodation tied to their work, or being unable to give a straight answer about where they live and how they travel to work.

Reporting a concern

Anybody, whether they work for us or not, can raise a concern with us. Our whistleblowing arrangements allow concerns to be raised without fear of detriment, and we will always support a person to raise a matter outside the organisation where they would rather do that.

  • Email us in confidence at info@movicare.co.uk.
  • Call the Modern Slavery and Exploitation Helpline on 08000 121 700, free and confidential, 24 hours a day.
  • In an emergency, or where someone is in immediate danger, call 999.
  • Concerns about the safety of an adult can also be raised with Kirklees Council adult safeguarding.

How we will measure this

As we grow we will track the proportion of staff recruited directly rather than through agencies, completion rates for modern slavery and safeguarding training, the number of suppliers who have confirmed their own standards in writing, and every concern raised and what was done about it.

Review

This statement will be reviewed and republished every year, and sooner if our supply chains change materially.
